Reflections for Blogs

Diane talks a lot about how she feels about technology. I feel that I can understand why she must feel that way because I have seen that there are many reasons to why she must feel that way, due to technology could be really good or really bad just depending on the situation. I know that children can be bullied in school, but now a days they can also be bullied outside of school through technology. Technology can be abused, but it also could be very useful to many others. It could be used to gain knowledge. It could be used to learn more about something you want to know or have not really had much learning about. People could use technology anywhere; classrooms, work, home, or any place that you are able to connect to the internet. The use of technology does do wonders, but could be abused in many ways.

I agree with this theory about using technology in the classroom more to enhance the students technology knowledge by maximizing it because students would prosper more for their future careers and life. I feel that if I was more exposed to technology in my past classrooms, I would be able to work with so much more activities, projects, and learn how to create more on my own. I feel that the education in America is in need of much change, for technology is only progressing faster and faster, yet we remain to not progress with technology through our school system education. I found that it was interesting on the three main points on why we should increase knowledge on technology because I agree with these points.

Google Docs is one of the most important tools I have ever used from Google. It is free, it is very helpful, no need to purchase anything, and it saves all my documents on the web that makes it very accessible. I agree with Shep McAllister about all of his main ideas and thoughts about Google Docs. I use Google Docs for homework, class work, group projects, work projects, work reports, research, and so much more. This has changed a lot for me because I do not need to rely on purchasing word document softwares just to type out anything I need.
4. http://www.techlearning.com/article/8670Bloom's Taxonomy is a taxonomy of cognitive objective or goal. The main idea of this order of thinking objective deals with being able to learn something, remember it, understand it, apply it, analyse it, evaluate it, and create it. Lorin demonstrates the taxonomy of cognitive objective by applying it in the digital or technology world with use of if you want to remember something you could highlight or have social networking by collaborating with friends or peers. When you understand something the student would blog or write about what they learned. When they apply something the student could upload anything to the web or blog to get more input and collaborate. When you analyse it the student could validate the information. Then there is evaluating something through commenting or reflecting and creating something through publishing what you learn.

I agree that the use of technology to support LEP students (limited-English-proficient) would be a great learning experience to build the confidence of these students through learning how to build their knowledge and being able to have the opportunity to do things through technology. I feel that students would have a better learning experience with their peers and are given the opportunity to create projects through technology or work on assignments for home and in class to better their knowledge. Technology will help these students increase their strategy, enhance their content material, and increase access and equity. To have successful LEP students there are principles that are in effect: meet expectations, develop in English skills of reading, listening, speaking, and writing, and much more responsibilities to meet the academic success.

Children always tend to speak their minds. I agree that using the internet to express yourself through a blog is perfect for children to learn how to use the technology that is provided to them, so that they may better themselves. I also agreed that parents should be greatly concerned about how these are shown through the internet and that if it is accessible for the world wide web to be able to see what is posted by these children, then yes it would create many issues that could arise in their lives. I see why it could affect many lives just from what could be said. I agree that they blogs or expressions would be looked upon and judged by college, peers, and predators. The use of technology does have its cons.
7. http://www.techlearning.com/showArticle.php?articleID=196604312 I agree with Lorrie Ma and Darian Shirazi about the main points that they found from students and listening to how the students feel about technology. The question and answer sessions that they had with these students made some clear points and situations for the reader to understand where students can progress through the use of technology. I feel that when I am at work I too want to be told what I can do and what I cannot do, but once started I would not want for others to repeat themselves and let me find out for myself what was right and what was wrong on my own judgement because for students they want to be able to also make their own choices after being told the rules. I also agree that students can become very innovative and creative as they learn more and more the use of technology and feeding on the information that technology has to occur.

I agree with Marc Prensky about technology has changed and so have the students. Every generation is eventually going to change and that’s why when Marc Prensky pointed out that teachers need to also change their way of teaching these generations I agree completely. When I was a child we did not use technology so often, but now a days I noticed that even children at young ages own their own cell phone or smartphone. Smartphones are already just one new step for technology and students could use it to do almost anything: check their e-mail, do some homework, search the web, etc.

At first, entering this website I felt that my first reaction was ‘what is social smart’? Turns out that it’s a program or website that helps students learn how to behave correctly and information on what is important, such as respect, compassions, trustworthiness, integrity, etc. I believe that this could help students know how to act towards other students. If schools were able to provide such programs then maybe students would be aware of how to treat others, the consequences on what would happen if others were treated a certain way, or different scenario examples. I believe that teachers could use this to their advantage to improve social skills and students behaviors, but I would need a little more input on how it actually works.
10. http://wp.nmc.org/horizon2010/After reading the section in the 2010 Horizon Report in Key Trends I found that there are trends that are effecting how teachers teach, how students learn and creative inquiry. I have always found that no matter the circumstance as time flies by everything would change from different trends. Here they find that the current trends are the abundance of researches and relationships that are easily accessible through the internet, people believe they can work and learn whenever and wherever they are at, technology is increasing, yet IT support is decentralized, and student’s works are collaborative. These trends have affected much of how teachers teach because it is not like the past where technology is not used, but rather should be used for research, information collaboration, and much more. Also it does affect how the students learn because then the students would be catching up with society and adapt to what the current trends in society are.
